the Work will present, it is believed, the most complete representation of Welsh poetry that has yet been issued from the press.

The selections from the prose writers will consist of large portions of the "Mabinogion" rendered into modern Welsh; tales and legends, historical episodes, sketches of manners and customs, &c., accompanied by literary and biographical notices of the more important writers. In this portion of the Work will be found some powerful and elegant productions of

  • THEOPHILUS EVANS of Llangammarch.
  • ELLIS WYNN of Glasynys
  • CHARLES EDWARDS.
  • LLEWELYN DDU o Fôn.
  • GORONWY OWAIN.
  • WILLIAM WILLIAMS of Pant y Celyn
  • JOSEPH HARRIS (Abertawe).
  • DR. W. O. PUGHE.
  • DAVID RHYS STEPHEN.
  • &c. &c.

In addition a number of original tales and sketches will be given, from the pen of writers of acknowledged merit. And thus it is hoped that the prose section of the Work will vie with the poetical one, both in interest and completeness.

Along with this full representation of native writers, the value and attractiveness of this Work will be further enhanced by there being included in it choice extracts from distinguished English writers, many of them masterpieces of diction, instructive as narratives, or brilliant as conceptions, worked out by cultivated. imaginations of the most creative powers.

The BEAUTIES OF WELSH LITERATURE will be embellished with twenty-four highly-finished illustrations, comprising portraits of some of the most eminent of the bards, including Sion Cent, Dafydd Ddu Eryri, Twm o'r Nant, Ieuan Glan Geirionydd, Glan Alun, Eben Fardd, Llewelyn Ddu o Fôn, Gwilym Caledfryn; also characteristic designs of scenes described in the Work, views of picturesque places, and other illustrations, two of which will be richly coloured. It will be completed in twelve parts, super-royal 8vo, at 2s. each; or four half-volumes, cloth extra, cut edges, plain, 7s. 6d. each; gilt, 8s. 6d.
