dalu amdano. Dywedir oni chariai ei waith allan yn fanwl am bob tŷ yn ei blwyf, "you will forfeit a sum not exceeding Twenty pounds, nor less than Five pounds."
Wele un o'r nifer rheolau:—
Duties on Houses and Windows.
You are to charge all skylights and windows or lights, however constructed, in staircases, garrets, cellars, passages, and all other parts of dwelling houses, whether they are in the exterior or interior parts of the house.
Ymddengys fod rhywun yn rhywle (yn Sir Fôn, mae'n debyg) wedi cynllunio i wneud i un ffenestr oleuo i ddwy ystafell, ond fel y canlyn y dywaid y warrant:—
Every window which gives light into more rooms, landings, or stories, than one, is to be charged as so many windows as there are rooms, landings, or stories, enlightened thereby.
Ond ni waeth heb fanylu. Yna rhoddir tabl yn dangos swm y dreth—

Felly yr edrych yn ein dyddiau ni, ond yr oedd yn swm anferth yr adeg honno, ac allan o gyrraedd cannoedd o deuluoedd tlodion. Byddai llawer gwraig weddw yn byw ar swllt neu swllt a chwe cheiniog o'r plwy, a llawer teulu a phump neu chwech o blant a dim ond pedwar neu bum swllt o gyflog wythnosol yn dyfod i mewn. Ac nid oedd dim i'w wneud ond codi tai heb ffenestri, a chaewyd cannoedd o ffenestri i arbed y dreth. Gellir gweled ambell un ohonynt heddiw. Ac fe ddengys y rheol a ganlyn mai peth cyffredin iawn oedd cau ffenestri i fyny:—
