was supposed to be abolished in 1827, I can remember seeing one in use in Yorkshire.

Stephenson's first locomotive, which I recollect well, was made in the year of my birth, and was used to carry coal from the pit's mouth. The industrial revolution was transforming England and causing much misery in the process in manufacturing districts, just as there was an educative movement throughout the mechanics' institutes. I was to see a complete change in affairs—educational, political, social and religious during my long life, and I am glad to know and testify that on the whole the changes have been for the better.

Ni chlywais am drapiau i ddal dynion yng Nghwm Eithin. Yr oedd y cyffion wrth ochr y fynwent yn Llanaled pan oeddwn yn yr ysgol a bûm yn eu treio droeon. Ond diau y defnyddid y trap yng Nghymru yn yr hen amser. Wele ddarlun ohono

Nid rhyfedd i R. J. Derfel ganu,

Mynwch y Ddaear yn ol.[1]

Morwynion a gweision ein gwlad,
Amaethwyr a gweithwyr pob sir,
Ymunwch ach gilydd bob un
Yn erbyn ysbeilwyr y tir;
Mae'r ddaear yn perthyn i chwi,
Eich llafur roes werth ar bob dol—
Tyngedwch pob gradd a phob oed
Y mynwch y ddaear yn ol.
