MEMORIAL TO WELSH POET.
At Uppington Church, near Shrewsbury, to-morrow night, the Rev. W. Sylvanus Jones will unveil a tablet erected by the Shropshire Cymmrodorion Society to the memory of Goronwy Owen, the famous Welsh poet, who was curate of Uppington. from 1748 to 1753. The address will be given by the distinguished Welsh scholar, the Rev. G. Hartwell Jones, rector of Nutfield, Surrey. Goronwy Owen combined his duties as curate of Uppington with the mastership of an endowed grammar school in his parish.
