ddigwydd o honof farchogaeth i Gaer Nerpwl cyn gwasanaeth (i edrych am gynhinion i'm teilwriaid,) a galw efo Aldramon ar ffrwst wrth fyned heibio. Ac yr wyf yn gyrru hwn yna ar ffwdan, i edrych a gyrraedd yna cyn i'r llall gychwyn. Ni yrrwys yr un o'r ddeufrawd i mi gymmaint ag un ffrencyn, ac ofni. yr wyf mai yn eich cost y byddwch am hyn o furgyn. Ni thal mo'r dimai Werddonig, ac nis meddaf mo'r amser i yrru ei well y tro yma. Er dim a fo gadewch i mi gael benthyg y Delyn Ledr y cyfleustra cyntaf, i gael i mi rygnu ambell gaingc arni, tra bo'r dydd yn hir a'r hin yn deg. Odid na bydd rhyw beth ynddi a wna i mi geisiaw ei ddynwared, neu o'r hyn lleiaf mi bigaf rai geiriau tu ag at helaethu fy Ngeirlyfr, fal yr wyf yn gwneuthur beunydd o'r hen Walchmai, &c., &c. I am exceedingly surprised to see how Dr. Davies has passed by abundance of good words without taking any notice of 'em, and that he should put a query to others that are as plain as pikestaff, amongst those are gwerthefin. Now what man that has seen or heard the word gwarthaf can be at a loss for the meaning of gwerthefin! Does not cyntefin come from cyntaf? Yes surely, and so does gwerthefin, from gwarthaf. He has properly enough rendered gwarthaf by vertex, fastigium, summitas; and so he should have rendered gwerthefin by, summus, supremus, &c, or in English, chief, principal, supreme, sovereign, &c. The like I could observe to you on some dozens of words more. And the sense tells you the same. What is Brenhin Gwerthefin (as Hywel fab Owain Gwynedd has it) but Sovereign King; and the translators of the Common Prayer Book might with much more propriety have said Ein Grasusaf Werthefin Arglwydd Frenhin George, than Grasusaf ddaionus, &c. I had made some few remarks on these things. in my Davies' Dictionary before I received Gwalchmai, &c., but now shall be enabled to augment them considerably in my Richards' which I've got interleaved and neatly bound in two Vol. for that purpose. My compliment to Mr. Ellis; kindly accept of the same to yourself. Gadewch gael pwt o lythyr gynta' galloch. Wyf eich eiddoch fal yr wyf.
