WALTON, March 18, 1754.

DEAR COUSIN,

I HAVE lately received a letter from Cousin Jack Owen, of Cefn Esgob, in the parish of Llanfihangel Tre'r Beirdd; who is in the same degree related to you as I am; for his mother and mine were two sisters; wherein he gave me to understand that you had left Bryn Mawr a good while ago, and that you lived at Lleiniog, near Beaumaris. Somebody had told me long since—and I think it was my brother that told me that your father lived at a place called Trecastell; but as I did not know in what part of Anglesey Trecastell was, I would not venture to write to you for fear the letter should miscarry. I hope my uncle and aunt are well and hearty, and beg you would be so obliging as to make my compliments to them both, and let me have a line from you at your leisure, to let me know how you all do. I have heard that Cousin Morris of the Coffee—house at Beaumaris, is married again, and made but an unfortunate match of it. God help her! I am sorry to hear it. My compliments to her when you see her. I suppose you have heard that I am married, as I have been some seven years past, and have now three children, two lads and one wench. Their names are Robert, Goronwy, and Elin; they are, I thank God, all well, but never had the small—pox amongst them, though it is very rife in our neighbourhood. I can send you no news from hence, because you are but a stranger to the place. Every manner of provision for man and beast is very dear, occasioned by the extreme severity of the winter, which was harder than the winter of the hard frost; but that the hard weather did not last so long. Yr ydwyf fi yn talu yma bum swllt a chwecheiniog y mesur am y gwenith, Winchester measure. Y mae'r gwair yn wyth geiniog yr Stone; hyny yw, ugain pwys y cwyr am wyth geiniog. Yr haidd yn ddeuswllt a deg ceiniog, a thriswllt y Winchester measure; a phob peth arall yn ol yr un bris. Mi glywaf farw Mr. Owen o
